So you got a new phone, maybe even 5G ready… but you’re still stuck on 4G and wondering “bro where’s the 5G??”
Don’t worry, enabling 5G on Jio is actually not hard — but there’s a couple things that need to be in place first.
Let’s break it down.
✅ 1. Check if your phone supports 5G
Yeah yeah I know it sounds basic, but not all phones support 5G even if they’re “new”.
Do this:
-
Go to Settings > About Phone
-
Look for Network type or just Google your phone model like:
“Samsung Galaxy M14 5G bands”
Make sure your phone supports Jio 5G bands – mainly n28, n78, n258.
✅ 2. Update your phone software
A lot of phones got 5G support later via updates, especially Xiaomi, Realme, Samsung, etc.
Steps:
-
Go to Settings > Software Update
-
Tap on Check for updates
-
If update is available, install it.
After updating, 5G option usually shows up in Mobile Network settings.
✅ 3. Enable 5G in network settings
Now this is where the magic happens ✨
How to do it:
-
Go to Settings
-
Tap Mobile Network / SIM & Network
-
Select your Jio SIM
-
Tap Preferred Network Type
-
Choose 5G / 4G / 3G / 2G (Auto) or 5G only (if it’s available)
Once it’s set, your phone will try to connect to 5G whenever it’s available.
✅ 4. Make sure you’re in a Jio 5G area
5G is not everywhere yet
Jio is still rolling it out in phases, but it’s already live in most cities and towns in India.
You can check on MyJio app or Jio website if your area has 5G.
No 5G in your area = You’ll still get 4G even with a 5G phone.
✅ 5. Use Jio SIM in SIM Slot 1
Some phones only support 5G on SIM slot 1. If your Jio SIM is in Slot 2, move it to Slot 1 and restart your phone.
✅ 6. No need for new SIM or recharge (for now)
Good news:
You don’t need to buy a new SIM for Jio 5G.
Jio’s existing 4G SIMs already support 5G.
Also, 5G is free under “Jio Welcome Offer” (as of now). If you’re on an active plan of ₹239 or above, you’re eligible.
Still not working?
Try this:
-
Turn Airplane mode ON > OFF
-
Restart phone
-
Use MyJio app → Check if 5G Welcome Offer is activated
Bonus: Check 5G status using MyJio App
-
Open MyJio app
-
Go to 5G tab
-
Tap Check availability
-
It’ll show if 5G is active in your area and if your phone/SIM is supported
Final Thoughts
If your phone is 5G-ready, you’re in a Jio 5G area, and you’ve enabled the right settings — you should be surfing at rocket speed by now
If still stuck, maybe wait a few weeks — Jio is still expanding coverage.
