Hey! If you’re tired of typing long messages on WhatsApp (who isn’t?), voice typing is a super cool feature that lets you just speak and your phone types it for you. Saves so much time, especially when you’re lazy or on the go.
But sometimes people don’t know how to turn it on or even find it. So here’s a quick guide on how to enable voice typing in WhatsApp. I tried to keep it simple so even if you’re not super techy, you’ll get it.
1. Make sure your phone has voice typing feature
Most smartphones now come with voice typing built-in, like Google Voice Typing on Android or Dictation on iPhones. If your phone is kinda old or basic, check if it supports voice typing first.
2. Enable voice typing on Android phones (Google Voice Typing)
Usually voice typing is already enabled by default on Android but if you don’t see the mic icon on your keyboard while typing in WhatsApp, do this:
-
Go to Settings
-
Tap on System (or General Management)
-
Choose Language & input
-
Tap on On-screen keyboard (or Virtual keyboard)
-
Select Google Voice Typing and make sure it’s turned ON
Now when you open WhatsApp and bring up the keyboard, you should see a little mic icon near the space bar or somewhere on your keyboard. Tap it and start talking!
3. Enable voice typing on iPhone (Dictation)
On iPhones, voice typing is called Dictation. If mic icon doesn’t appear, do this:
-
Go to Settings
-
Tap General
-
Tap Keyboard
-
Toggle on Enable Dictation
Now open WhatsApp, tap the keyboard, and look for the mic icon. Tap it and speak your message.
4. How to use voice typing in WhatsApp
-
Open a chat in WhatsApp
-
Tap the text box to open the keyboard
-
Tap the mic icon on the keyboard (not the WhatsApp mic for voice notes — different thing!)
-
Start speaking clearly
-
When you stop talking, your message will appear in text form
-
Edit if you want, then send!
5. Some common problems
-
Sometimes voice typing doesn’t work well if there’s background noise
-
You need internet connection for voice typing to work (except some phones have offline mode)
-
If no mic icon appears, try switching your keyboard (like from Samsung keyboard to Gboard)
Final thoughts
Voice typing is honestly a game changer when you’re busy or just lazy lol. It takes a bit of practice to get used to, but once you do, texting on WhatsApp gets way faster. Try it out and you’ll see!
